Greetings Citizens of the Printerverse!

It’s October and that means our industry holiday is on the horizon. International Print Day (IPD) is global celebration of print through social media for 24 hrs. The party starts at 6PM ET in the United States on October 22nd (9AM in AEDT in Australia / 11AM NZDT in New Zealand on Oct 23rd) and finishes 24 hours later in the United States at 6PM ET on October 23rd. Time zone math can get a bit complicated, so to keep it very simple … wherever you are on Oct 23, 2019 it is International Print Day!

IPD started in 2014 after a #PrintChat discussion sparked the idea, and since then participants have helped to create 123,833,356 impressions on Twitter celebrating print, and creating awareness for all of the cool things we can do. To participate all you need to do is include #IPD19 in your social media shares on Oct 23rd.

IPD always has a theme to create engagement and connection with participants, and help the non-industry world watching understand what we do and how we can help them. This year the #PrintChat-ers voted #print2gether as the winning hashtag to represent the partnerships within the industry and all the relationships from idea to execution that enhance the creativity, quality, and vitality of print.

#IPD19 also coincides with the first day of PRINTING United. The show’s convergence theme couldn’t be more topical to help illustrate the #print2gether connection for products, services, show floor partners, and how all industry partnerships benefit print customers and consumers. Events are the epicenter of #print2gether partnership and finding things to share in Dallas wont be difficult!

To help with your social media success during #IPD19, here are 3 tips for global glory:

Create sharable content. This may seem like a no-brainer, but there is a nuance. The most sharable content is not about you, but what your intended audience would like to pass along. For example if you are a printer and want to create sharable content for designers to pass along, make it about design… a tip, a trick, a great example of retouching (you can play what has been removed) and so on. Every reshare gets your business a greater share of the millions of impressions being generated. You want to strategically target for retweets and mentions. Likes are great, but they don’t create reach – however, don’t forget to connect with everyone who likes, reshares or mentions you. They took the time, so thank them and make new friends!

Tag your partners. Everyone likes validation, and to pass along kind words said about them. Take advantage of #print2gether and give a shout-out to everyone who helps you get the job done. Go a step further and celebrate your customers. I can already hear the objections – “we don’t want anyone to know who we work with” – but please, get over yourselves. If your customers are on social media give them some love and some impressions for their business. Let them know now, and ask if you can share their work. You may be very surprised how open they are to being recognized for the great work THEY do.

Show off! The one consistent thing we have learned at Project Peacock is that showing is 1000x better than telling. Gather up all of the coolest work you have done this year, and show off your capabilities. That can be in the form of pics, case studies, videos, podcasts, blog content, reviews, testimonials, press coverage… there is no limit. Just be humble and celebrate partners that helped make these things happen for greater chance of reshares.

In that spirit of partnership, Konica Minolta and MGI have printed and digitally enhanced International Print Day posters for PRINTING United attendees. The posters, designed by Craig Bower, owner of Design That Rocks, were printed on Accurio 6100 & AccurioWide 100 presses and then embellished on a JETvarnish 3D S press. Attendees are welcome to pick up free copies in the KM/MGI booth (9536) and the Print Media Centr booth (12141) while they last.

You can also download the #IPD19 and #print2gether logos, and a PDF version of the poster at internationalprintday.org.

As I mentioned before dont forget to connect with everyone who engages with you, and you can make hundreds of new connections following #IPD19, #print2gether and #PRINTINGunited on October 23rd. See you in the streams and Happy International Print Day!!

SHARE LONG, CELEBRATE LONG… and most important PRINT LONG AND PROSPER!
