Create Mini Case Studies With This 5-Part Formula

chemistry beakers, Create Mini Case Studies With This 5-Part Formula

Mini case studies are powerful stories that turn your claims into evidence. They help you build trust with readers and showcase your expertise. If you want to create mini case studies to use in your marketing, here’s an easy 5-part formula I recommend to printers who want to get the most bang for their buck.

How can you turn customer success stories into marketing assets? Every printer has customer success stories they can share, but not every printer knows how to turn them into persuasive marketing tools that build trust and help win business.

Heres my step-by-step recipe for creating mini case studies that showcase customer results,  demonstrate expertise, and provide prospects with the proof they need to feel confident working with you.

GETTING STARTED WITH MINI CASE STUDIES

Mini case studies are concise stories that describe how you helped a customer solve a problem. They are short stories where the star is your customer. Yes, you are the hero because you helped them, but always keep a tight focus on the transformation your print customer achieved.

When read aloud, a mini case study should be under two minutes. If it gets too long, it loses the advantage of someone reading or listening to the entire story. You want people to read from beginning to end so they consume the entire persuasive package.

PARTS OF A MINI CASE STUDY

There are many ways to construct a mini case study. The key parts are like any story:  a beginning, middle, and end.

Here’s how I teach my clients, especially if the purpose is to use the mini case study in printed form as a conversion tool.

Start with the opener that gives context. => “Here’s exactly what we did to help our print customer achieve ‘x’ dramatic results.”

Then, flesh out the story with these five components.

=> THE CUSTOMER’S “BEFORE” CONDITION. Briefly set the stage. – “Here’s a snapshot of the problem or situation.”

=> ASSESSMENT. Explain how you determined which path to take. – “Here’s what we researched and why it was the right choice.”

=> PROCESS AND PAYOFF. Paint a picture of the customer following your advice. Then, describe the “after” scenario using data, examples, and customer quotes. – “Here’s how we solved the problem and what it looked like.”

=> RELEVANCE. Explain the ROI, takeaway, or the lesson. Be sure to use concrete terms. – “Here’s the tangible impact of the change.”

=> TAKEAWAY OR SUMMARY. Wrap it all up with a summary that includes the most important lesson learned – “Here’s the moral of the story.”

THE PRINTER’S ADVANTAGE

Printers can leverage mini case studies because they actually talk to their customers. Think about all the industries where a customer never interacts with a sales rep or CSR. Your conversations with customers should give you a goldmine of stories.

Each time you make an interesting paper recommendation or solve a complex problem, make notes so you can pick the best ones to turn into stories.

The goal is for readers to see themselves benefiting from the transformational solution you describe. Never paint a negative picture of customers just to show how smart you are. Remember, the customer is the star.

Pick the best stories to turn into mini case studies. The story should be interesting enough for readers to remember it – and compelling enough to make them want to work with you.

GETTING STARTED

If you’re looking for a simple way to make your marketing more credible and effective, try my practical framework that you can put to work right away.

A mini case study formatted with the five steps above should give prospective print customers the proof they need to work with you.

Mini case studies are persuasive marketing tools, and you now have the formula to make them work for you.
