Focus on Setting Goals

We all have things in our lives that we want to achieve. Some of us aspire to get our bodies into shape, build a successful business or raise a family. Goal setting is a powerful process to motivate yourself to want more and turn your vision into a reality.

tipsonsettinggoalsThe path begins by setting attainable goals that are reachable. Focus on the future of yourself and the people who may be in your life. Start by brainstorming the things or people who are important in your life. What do you want to achieve for yourself?

Invest a fair amount of time to think about your future

Think about what makes your mind tick and what do you want your future to be like. Be realistic about the goals so you are able to achieve them. Compile a list and set a time of when to accomplish each one of them.

Challenge Yourself

Successful people always want more…Athletes, Business-Owners and Achievers. Stay on course. If you are challenging yourself, don’t stress about the obstacles.

Make an inspiration board

I utilize a whiteboard to jot down different areas of where I;d like to improve myself or my business. After completing each goal, I erase that item and write down a new one.
+ Post pictures or quotes to keep a positive mindset.

Long-Term vs Short-Term

Long term goals are important because you;re distinguishing where you see yourself within the lifetime. Make it measurable, how will you get there? What do you need to work on?
+ Think of the big-picture – 10 years from now
+ Smaller targets help — such as one month, six month and one-year goals

Examples of goals:

Career: What level do you want to reach? Do you want to open your own business?
Financial: Are you in debt? If so- will getting out of debt be one or your goals?
Education: Do you see yourself going to college?
Family: How important is having a partner and family to you?

Future Goal Setting Tips
1. Write your goals in a positive expression
2. Be precise by writing dates so you know exactly when to reach these
3. Set priorities — use a number or star for the goals that you want to achieve first
4. Be realistic because this is important for your desires and ambitions

  1. A great read, Melissa! I also find it helpful to set up a time to review your goals every week or every other week. It helps to see what you’ve achieved and what you have left to achieve, or to see where you might have fallen behind and where you need to pick things back up.
