One Day or Day One?

My sister in law is the luckiest person I know when it comes to winning radio contests. Concerts, movie passes, you name it. And when she called me a month ago to tell me that she had won tickets to see Oprah at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, some of that luck rubbed right off on me. I am NOT going to give you the blow by blow of that amazing day (but I will if you want to buy me a cup of coffee or a glass of wine someday)

Oprah Winfrey at the Barclay Center

What I DO want to talk to you about are three words that really stood out to me.  Words that you hear all the time. Words you might be tired of hearing by now.  But imma say them anyway.

Now before I begin, let me just put some perspective about this. If you are operating at maximum productivity, profit and satisfaction levels, like things could not be ANY better for you in your whole life, well you can just scroll on by with my greatest admiration and congratulations.

Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Still here? Me too. I will AWAYS still be here because I know that my journey has no destination and no end. I sincerely hope that my pursuit of self-awareness and self-improvement never ends. Same for you? Super. Here we go.

This is about reflection, hoping and planning. Realizing where you are now, where you want to go and how you move forward. Want to join me?

The first thing we need to talk about is focus. Think about taking an eye test, and the moment that the smallest row of letters and numbers comes into perfect clarity and you can really see. This is the feeling that I’m talking about. Being able to dial into where you are out of balance and figuring out what steps you need to take to give you a better footing. Are you spending too much time chasing down proof approvals? Do you make NO time in your day to prospect even though you know you HAVE TO in order to make your sales goal? It’s honesty time, baby. It’s time to figure out what is in your way, what you need to do to get yourself where you want to be. Where you NEED to be. Where you DESERVE to be.

Next, we must talk about intention. Intention is y our WHY. Intention is a promise you make to yourself. It gives you the clarity to set you on the path to making all your wildest dreams come true. A goal without an intention is empty and can make you feel like you are on a hamster wheel chasing someone else’s purpose. Do you show up for work every day just to make the owners of your company richer? I hope to hell NOT. There is a reason you get out of bed every day, and it’s time to name that reason or reasons and use that intention to propel you forward.

Nothing happens without commitment. This is where the rubber meets the road, so say it out loud. I will___________. I want ____________.  There are no secrets as to how to get there. If you wanted to lose weight you would eat less and move more. If you want to run a marathon you must first run a mile. You need a plan. More sales? Engage more. Want to be a thought leader? Write, create and connect. Want to be the number one salesperson at your company? You must point at the person who holds that title now and figure out how to unseat her or him.

You can do these things. If you need help, you can ask a friend, a colleague or someone else that you trust. Or you can talk to someone like me, who is all about helping you get everything you’ve ever wanted. You can have them. You can get them. You can do this.
