Deborah spoke to Larry Vaughn, Strategic Account Executive at Thomas Printworks and one of the founders of Dscoop, at Edge Orlando in this Podcasts from the Printerverse episode.
In this podcast Larry talks about his Dscoop session, which was all about educating attendees on how they can reach beyond their locality to become global printers when they have the support of the Dscoop community, and the opportunities to network and communicate with other printers, suppliers and partners.
Larry shares some of his personal story, and the path that led him from a lifelong struggle with dyslexia to the production of his own book, Business Cards and Shoe Leather. As Larry says, ‘sometimes your greatest weakness can be your greatest success’ – an inspiring message for everyone who feels that they can’t do something they want to do, personally or professionally.
Education and encouraging the next generation to embark on print industry careers is a Print Media Centr passion as I’m sure you all know. Larry shares that enthusiasm and talks in this episode about the importance of getting young people involved.
Dscoop welcomed six schools at the Orlando event, which is great – but Larry recognises it needs to go beyond a few days at an event. He talks about his goal to initiate a learning and mentoring programme for young people, that not only educates and gets them excited about print but also provides a definite timeline of what they will learn and what they will get out of the scheme.
