15 Creative & Crazy Cool QR Code Designs

The greatest thing about a designer, especially a great designer, is that they challenge the “rules” when they create. As a matter of fact, asking a designer to stay within the box is the fastest way to get them out of it and that is why they are so much fun to work with (sometimes!).  I pulled just a few examples, but Im beyond in love with the QR code OVER the image and until now have never seen that before. Unfortunately, I couldnt get some of these to work and Im not sure if its just too dark in my cave of an office to have enough contrast – especially with the photo one, of they are just not hooked up to scan since some did work with no problem. That “technicality” certainly must be addressed before usage, but for now Im just going to enjoy looking at them and experience a little QR out of the 2D barcode box.

By now everyone knows that a QR code is a special barcode that is designed to be read by your smartphone. It’s a very simple form of augmented reality since the codes are many times in our offline lives, yet once we scan them; we are taken someone online, if that makes sense. I remember back in early 2009 when QR codes were viewed as just some other super geeky technology, and nobody was really paying attention to them. A lot has changed since then, and now QR codes are pretty much mainstream. People are starting to realize that those codes can open the door to a super fun interactive online experience, depending on how much forethought is put into the marketing.
