Yesterday afternoon I had the distinct honor to be on a short list, for a short call, with Mr. Benny Landa and Yishai Amir, CEO, The Landa Group. They were on hand to discuss the new presses and technology that are sure to be the epicenter of drupa 2016 buzz. You can read all about that here.

So what do you ask the man who has been asked pretty much everything related to his technology, especially when you aren’t a technology person? I had already asked Mr. Landa if he thought printing was a craft or a science when I met him at Graph Expo a few years ago (video!). He remembered me from my ANTENNAS and that we played Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em robots together – actually said it was the most FUN he ever had during an interview (swoon!). I decided to focus on something that relates to all of us… and asked…

As one of the most influential Print Pioneers of our time, how do you measure success?

— there was a long pause. At first I was nervous – did Mr. Landa think I was wasting his time??? – but then he said… “Wow, a philosophical question” … and provided an unexpected answer.

“I don’t think success has anything to do with print, or career. I think success is measured really, only in one way. If you can go back and look at your life and say ‘I’ve made a difference’ – I’ve made the world I live in, the community I live in, the place I live in a better place because of me. Not necessarily just more technically advanced, or a more prosperous place, but a place that is more fair, more equatable, it’s egalitarian. A place that respects the individual. I think all of us are focused too much on careers, money… and really what counts is did you make a difference.” ~Benny Landa

Related to print…

“When I look back on my career, what I and all these hundreds of people who have been with for me many years to change the industry, I think we have made a difference. And looking back to this point in time, to the present move we are making with Nanography, as havingthe big impact on bringing the printing industry to the digital era. So the answer is connected, but success is the influence we have made on society, not how much money.” ~Benny Landa

Thank you Mr. Landa – for your time, and your success… which has made a difference to the world!
