3D Printing: How Long Till The Revolution?

This is pretty interesting. The infographic depicts when every American will have a 3D printer in their homes based upon the adoption rate of PC’s. It took 35 years (from 1975 to 2010) before there was 1 PC per person in the US per the data below, and I wont do the spoil alert thing, but let’s just say I might use my personal 3D printer to create one of those chairs that goes up the staircase if it doesn’t catch on quicker!

  1. Mcor Technologies should also be included in the “Buy Your Own Printer” category and in the “Get a 3D Design Printed” category, since Staples selected Mcor’s technology for it’s Easy 3D print service. Mcor’s printing costs are the lowest in the industry because the build material is paper. Despite being paper, the printed models are incredibly tough and durable, and they are printed in full, photorealistic color.

  2. The possibilities seem endless for the amazing technology. However some form of regulation or control needs to be put in place as it seems far too easy to build weapons and harmful objects.

I do think the comparison to ITunes is an interesting one, the ability to purchase and download the design in its correct form, whilst contributing to the designer seems the right way to be headed.
