An entire user experience from practically any PRINTED material is a very awesome concept. Prior to this tech, I have only seen AR come to life with icon triggers(like a QR code). If I understand the below correctly, that is about to change with this app. I think the CD in the video is a great example, though I wish the video was as exciting as what it shows. And get this… with this app – you can CHECK IN TO OBJECTS! So dont be surprised if one day soon you see Deborah Corn is listening to PJ Harvey via social media!

Thanks to advancements in mobile augmented reality we have now, for the first time, the ability to launch AR content from any target, anywhere. The 3D content will quickly activate from almost any 2D image or design (targets) Examples we’ve seen include dollar bills, magazine covers, billboards or, as in this case, an album cover. Once the Abbey Road image is recognised (it takes no user-interaction and happens very quickly in most lighting conditions) the model rises up out of the cover. We also tested the app successfully on an Abbey Road T-shirt and an A4 printout. So long as the image is the same, it doesn’t matter about the size or necessarily on what kind of material it is printed. The app can be be trained to recognise up to 10 different images and each of those can be programmed to deliver a unique experience. Clearly, the findability of the targets will directly impact the reach and usage of the app. You have to consider the end-users could be anywhere, at a friends house, in a store, waiting for a bus….
