Guinness World Records 2013 Takes a BITE Into Augmented Reality!

I was soooooo excited about this and was on my way to buy it when I found out after going to iTunes that the book and the app arent available until September 11, 2012!! Guinness does have a nice preview up and was cool to see SOCIAL MEDIA RECORDS in there! The use of AR is really a perfect enhancement for this book to make it an experience that is informative, interactive and FUN! I WANT ONE!

AUGMENTED REALITY SHARKS STAR IN GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS 2013 APP

The warning is right there in the headline: AR sharks mean the Guinness World Records 2013 Augmented Reality app may not be ideal for children with sensitive souls. Or, indeed, parents who can’t watch Jaws without hiding behind the sofa…

Other kids and adults may enjoy it though. This is an official app for the latest Guinness World Records book – earlier versions of which held me rapt as a want-to-know-it-all boy.

“If you’ve got the book, download this AR viewer now to see record holders come to life as stunning 3D animations,” explains the App Store listing.

Which means sharks bursting out of the pages when your iPhone or iPad is pointed at them, as well as the world’s shortest man, world’s smallest helicopter, and “the parrot who can perform the most slam dunks in a minute”.

The animations are interactive too, so you can control the helicopter and make a Goliath bird-eating spider hiss at you – er, possibly another one to avoid if your kids aren’t arachnophiles.

Guinness World Records 2013 Augmented Reality is a free download on the App Store, for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Although you’ll obviously need a copy of the print book too.
