I started sharing a link to HP’s new publishing focused site the other day because I LOVE when companies get aboard the “let’s find new ways to help you grow your biz, and keep the presses pumping” train. This is the first time I had come across a focus specifically for publishers, who have been hit the hardest by digital media in many ways.
But this isn’t a post about gloom and doom, we don’t do that anymore per my CMYK Manifesto! So instead lets look at WHY this matters, and 99% of the time when I need the answer to that question, I turn to Pat McGrew. It was an added bonus in this case that she actually works for HP!
[1/29/14 11:29:53 AM] PC McGrew, M-EDP, CMP: Why this matters???… publishing is still big… books, magazines and newspapers are still big. But smart publishers know that they can’t keep doing business they way they have in the past with huge overruns, huge warehouses and lots of recycling. Smart publishers need to look at how digital workflows can help them open their backlists, limit their warehousing costs, and open their doors to short runs.

Nice strategy here. Good for print, good for publishers.
Check out the site and pass it along! HP has segmented it and it’s very user friendly and simple to get info for the publishing sector you’re interested it.

What a great, clean, user friendly, customer focused site this is. A lot of printers could do with assessing what HP have done here and learn from it!
