It was only ten years ago that Google created AdWords – technology that gave advertisers an unprecedented level of targeting. Today we’ve become accustomed to context-aware advertising everywhere from our Facebook to our Gmail, but mobile technologies are taking contextual and interactive marketing a step further. Advertisers can now recognize our face, respond to our location and even virtually put products in the palm of our hand.
Although the technology has existed for a number of years now, Augmented Reality is only beginning to gain wide-spread use. One of the major motivators has been the Xbox Kinect, which has brought AR into consumers’ homes in games like Fantastic Pets, and into their daily lives in demonstrations like the TopShop virtual dressing room. When AR is applied to mobile it effectively opens a virtual portal for users to see a new layer on the world around them. Companies are using these “virtual views” for consumers to find store locations around them or to capture deals like they would paparazzi photos or butterflies.
The infographic below provided by BuySellAds.com looks at some of these new technologies and the companies blazing trails with interactive marketing.
