JWT Brazil Shares Some Secrets Behind The BBQ Bible

Recently I shared a story about the BBQ Bible created by JWT Brazil. I did a little digging and reached out to the Creative department in San Paulo with a few questions – and shortly after received a reply from Maria Eugenia Humberg, Communication & Marketing Director.

I did ask if we would be able to get a copy in the US, or if the client, Tramontina will produce any for the US, but Maria didn’t answer that one… so back to everyone crossing fingers!

If you haven’t read the original post start here… then come back and read below!!

DC: The concept is genius. Congratulations to you and your team! Was the initial concept what we see as the final product – or did it evolve to that, and from what?

MEH: Yes! Each page was created to be like the final result you saw. The only change was the sandpaper page. Initially we thought about a sharpening stone. But It would make the book really heavy and hard to handle.

DC: How long did the project take, and any valuable lessons learned along the way with something so complicated?

MEH: The project took about 5 months. The hard part was getting all the suppliers together and make the book affordable.

DC: How many vendors and suppliers contributed to the creation of this book? Who are they, and what did they do?

MEH: There were many suppliers. The main supplier was Pimenta Print and they did the cutting board laser print, the binding, the tray and some other minor things. There was also a silk screen print company, a coal and graphite supplier, a edible paper printer and some other items we bought like the sandpaper and fabric for the kitchen cloth and apron.

DC: The video is amazing, but without being able to touch the BBQ Bible we miss out on all the details…like HOW did you make a page made from coal!!!!! And how was the book bound???

MEH: I can’t tell you exactly how the coal sheet was made, but I can tell you that you can actually put fire on it! (For binding) We did a folded paper structure as you can see on the photo below and placed the pages with strong double faced tape.
