When was the last time you played with a deck of cards? Real cards, not the online solitaire version? Over the last couple of years, I’ve found myself with decks of cards in my hands – real ones – that aren’t the traditional hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs, but instead are decks for learning and communicating ideas. I love them!
In an episode of Print Sample TV, I showed a set of cards that are both playing cards and educational cards. One is The Design Deck created by Ben Barrett-Forrest and the other is A Guide to Typography designed by Caisa Nilaseca for Design Taxi, and I keep both on my desk! They are great for those times when you are searching for an idea or concept and don’t want to haul the big hardcover books off the shelf or go down the rabbit hole of an internet search. I love the concepts. They are well-produced and thoughtfully designed!
Why am I sharing them? First, I do use them. But think about your business. Could you come up with 52 ideas that you want to share? Could you bring this idea to your clients and help them expand their leave-behinds and trade show giveaways? Even if you don’t have the finishing to produce them yourself, there are plenty of folks in the trade who produce beautiful playing cards!
