by Andrew Wong
On Thursday March 28th, students at Ryerson University’s Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program will be hosting its annual colloquium event. This event consist of two seminars, featuring experts from the print and packaging industry and a catered reception that aims to connect students and industry professionals in an evening of networking and education. This year’s event is titled “THiNK: Printed Electronics, What it Means for Print & Packaging”.
Keynote speakers, Dr. Paul Smith (Vice President, Xerox Innovation Group XRCC) and
James Lee (Director, Technology & Innovation, Jones Packaging), will provide an in-depth look at printed electronics, how they will be incorporated into packaging workflows, and the marketing implications for the consumer packaging industry.
A catered reception will follow featuring interactive product demonstrations from Bash Interactive (NFC Tap2 & RFID Connect Technologies), Ryerson DMZ startup Flybits (targeted location based information for mobile users), and Graphic Monthly Canada. This year’s event is organized in association with The Packaging Association (PAC).
Recruiters, Brand Managers, Brand Owners, CPG Manufacturers, Marketers, Print Industry Professionals, Innovators, Dreamers… This Event Is For You!
Last year’s colloquium at Ryerson was titled “Spark!”, with discussions centred on the latest in NFC technology & packaging in a digital world. Spark! brought over 250 industry professionals and students to Ryerson.
Colloquium is free for industry, supported by Ryerson University and fundraising efforts by the organizing team. Ryerson’s Graphic Communications Management (GCM) is the only university degree level print management program in Canada. Continued support from the graphic communications industry has been essential to the success of Ryerson GCM’s third year summer internship program and the perennial success rate of our graduating classes. This event is a way for GCM to say thank you to the companies that have supported us through the years and to build awareness about GCM across the industry.
This event brings together professionals from many segments of the graphic communications spectrum. Last year, our attendees included branding and marketing companies, major equipment manufacturers, ink manufacturers, CPG manufacturers, printers, design houses, recruiters, and some of the largest multinational brand owners in North America.
Every year, the colloquium team works hard to create an event that brings awareness to emerging technologies, trends, and innovative research that will affect the future of our industry. The printed electronics market is expected to explode over the next decade. Companies like Xerox and Jones Packaging have individually and collaboratively led way for innovation in Canada. This event will be a great networking opportunity for all involved, and a great way to spark discussion on the potential for printed electronics in the print and packaging industry.
