Starting last year there was an explosion of creating and sharing animated GIF’s online. Recognizing the trend, and acknowledging that ONLY being able to share through digital media was limiting, Gifpop! was born as a way to bring this art form into the real world using Lenticular Printing!
The system is simple – you upload a file and choose a size from business card to a 5 x 5. If you don’t want to send your own file, you can choose a design created by artists they are working with. It doesn’t say how long it takes, but eventually you will receive your GIF as a lenticular. They have options for bulk, but I’d guess they are mostly in the one-off business.
The significance of this project cannot be understated, and since Gifpop! has raised funds beyond their goal, it seems many other see the potential in projects that enable people to take their digital media and convert it into print media. The only thing that would make this “better” in my opinion is if a printer came up with the idea – but as long print is in there is it a WIN, and a nice reminder to the millennial’s that cool stuff can be shared without a device too.
