Print companies can make savings in paper costs equivalent to an average of 1.4% of their turnover through a few simple steps, according to Vision in Print (ViP).
The research, which was conducted for Howard Smith Paper Group, revealed that for the average B1 and B2 sheet-fed litho printer, buying ‘Bulk packed’ paper can save up to £100 per tonne when including paper handling and ream-wrapped surcharges.
The bulk packed paper arrives palletised and ready to go, reducing manual intervention and causing fewer misfeeds, thereby reducing waste.
The study also showed a missed opportunity to buy using bespoke paper size. Nearly 4% of paper orders included in the study were in excess of two tonnes, where a bespoke order would have saved an average of 15% in material costs.
The full results will be revealed by Ian Symons of Kingfisher Print & Design at the ViP conference ‘Winning the War on Waste’ on 22 November at the Lancaster Hotel in London which also features Haymarket Publishing chairman Lord Heseltine as the keynote speaker.
