VIDEO Infographic: A Marketer's Guide to Pinterest

This is pretty cool… a video info graphic from MDG Advertising – hmmm infovideo? Well whatever we call it there is no question that the subject matter is clear – Pinterest is here to stay and IF your audience is using it (most likely a good portion is) then you should be too.

I know, another thing to deal with – believe me I hear you on that! What makes Pinterest a bit easier to add to the social media regimen is that 98% of it is visual. Have image/find image/see image – Pin It. Give a little info if you WANT to, and then you are pretty much done. The people who follow your Pins will share it by “re-pinning” and in some cases make comments that you can turn into a conversation. That is the nutshell concept and anyone can get started with that small amount of information until you want to delve a bit deeper.

If you do want to dive right in… set up multiple board categories, and a board is where you “pin” your images. A Printer for example could segment images of their work by industry (clients you service) or execution (direct mail, brochures, packaging etc) or some combination of both – Real Estate Board, Agency Work Board, Hospitality Board etc. Designers and Photographers can really segment their work since is based on specific visuals, and they do tend to pin the coolest stuff.

And speaking of cool, make sure you do share amazing things even if they aren’t your own! Make a board, name it something fun, and as you are surfing the web and find cool images hit the handy “pin” button and it will load it with the link to page you found it on, to the board you specify. Pinterest will allow you to put a “pin” button on your web browser menu – and many sites already have “pin” share buttons up with the others – like we do.

The real downside to Pinterest is that you can easily get sucked into the vortex of looking at all the pins that aggregate from the people you follow. There are a some really AMAZING things in this world – architecture being one of them. There are a series of staircase photo’s being shared that blow my mind – I know STAIRCASES, but Im hooked now. Also, and be warned, people share a LOT of food photos. So much so that I added a “Looks Yummy” board and one of these days I will attempt the cinnamon roll CRUST for an apple pie!

Check out my Pinterest Boards, and if you are on there (or will be soon) please connect! Happy Pinning!
