TwoSidesUS_ecographic_contest_logo

The first-ever TwoSides US EcoGraphic Competition is a challenge to represent facts and data about the sustainability of paper and print through the unique format of the infographic. The contest is open to all US residents over the age of 18 at the time of his or her entry; entries will be accepted through August 16, 2013.

One contest winner, or winning team, will receive cash prize totalling $2,500 USD! The winner will be announced at the Print13 Conference in Chicago on September 10, 2013 – in PrintMediaCentr’s PRINTERVERSE Booth 5440!

I am making a personal plea here for everyone to share this contest information with as many people as possible. Even if they don’t enter, they will be exposed to some facts and information about the sustainability of paper and print – and that should be our goal. It’s also a nice cash prize and there are many designers out there who will be very appreciative you shared the contest information with them!

Another great thing about this contest is that the winning EcoGraphic will be printed as 24″ x 36″ posters and distributed to as many schools as possible. So we will finally have some national “grassroots” exposure on this subject – and the winning designer will as well!

One Response

  1. Two Sides, Paper Because, the proposed (is it still alive?) commodity check-off program by AF&PA and the prior efforts of Abundant Forests Association have not, can not and will not do the job for our industries. The public is misinformed and/or uninformed concerning the state of the forests and the environment in general.

I have been in the printing (10 years) and paper business for over forty-nine years and our industry has never responded properly to those who seek to misinform the public about the environment. Our efforts have been, in one form or another, advertising and PR campaigns and those are not the ways to “tell our story” as Two Sides says we have to tell.

The “other side” has been connecting with the public since the early 70’s and the have the cooperation of nearly every pathway to the American public. I have been working on a quarterly publication that would be a great vehicle for our industries and others to connect with the public. Our publication does not take sides but is rather an open platform. We have world class photography and can get articles penned from all points of view. Over the years I have made presentations to paper manufacturers, others involved have been in touch with all sorts of corporations from the oil and gas industry to retail. Long story short: we do have a story to tell and no vehicle to tell it. If we do not connect with the public in the right context we will continue to lose the battle.

I do believe in what the economists call creative destruction and understand the concept of electronic replacement. However, I believe an informed public is what we need for our industries to have a fair shot in the marketplace. It is time we get off the sidelines and into the game.
