FESPA – Ford vehicle print innovation – it’s a wrap

The best ideas are often the simplest as has proven the case with a new initiative launched by Ford in the US. Last year the company introduced a website that allowed Ford customers to customise their vehicle with a vinyl wrap. The site was such a hit that the car manufacturer has now rolled out the service to small business owners who can turn their Transit Connect trucks into what the company calls “billboards on wheels” – a 24-7 mobile advertisement for the truck owner’s business.

Vinyl vehicle wraps are not a new idea – they’ve been around for years – but what’s ground-breaking about this particular initiative is that customers can create their own customised graphic wrap online in a virtual design studio. By calling on a database of lettering, shapes and colours – they can also upload their own images and incorporate them into the final design if they so choose.
