Print Industry Unites For International Print Day

IPD_iconBorn out of the desire to share, connect and learn from our colleagues around the world, I had the honor to announce the initiative, International Print Day: A Global Celebration of All Things Print! at #printchat last week.

International Print Day (IPD) will be held annually the second Wednesday of October, with the first official celebration being October 8, 2014. You may think “Deborah, that is a year away, remind me in July”… but in order to make this EPIC and a true partnership with all countries that wish to participate, the planning has already begun!

The vision for IPD is a 24-hr Global Virtual Conference! But this is only the start! And since we are thinking BIG and thinking GLOBAL, we need as much help as possible to pool our resources and pull this off.

We are looking for international representatives to step up and help on the local level to develop relevant programming and share IPD information.

We are looking for companies to step up and help with donations of materials as well as local, regional and full event sponsorships. Proposals will be developed and sent to anyone who wishes to participate. Our goal is to keep the virtual event free for all attendees.

For now, we need everyone who wants to help create the conference to connect with us. You can do this by emailing info@internationalprintday.org. If you have a special skill (design, web programming etc), or if you speak multiple languages, please let us know!  We will formulate committees based upon responses and take it from there.

If you want to keep in the loop, please join our mailing list, follow us on Twitter, and join us on Facebook where you can also participate in discussions about IPD in the forum. Stay tuned to the website as it’s being developed. We want your input!

Speaking of input, there are two immediate items on the agenda… the creation of a logo for International Print Day 2014, and a platform for our virtual conference.

The official logo needs to be an icon so International Print Day 2014 can be added in other languages, and it can be used globally for social media. Keep in mind it will be printed and also viewed on devices with 5” screens. Logo will need to be created as vector art. No PMS colors please. If you want to submit a design, please email a jpeg to info@internationalprintday.org by November 20, 2013. Next steps will be announced after that.

If you have produced, have connections or work at a company that provides a platform for virtual events, please get in touch! Besides the main conference, we want to have additional opportunities for online meet-ups, Webinars and sessions during the week, so we welcome all input in this area – especially international solutions!

During our initial brainstorm of ideas for IPD, the theme of “What Print Means To Me” came about to define our first event. My answer now, as it has always been, is that Print is about Partnership. From concept to delivery, we all contribute to the big picture, and International Print Day is the official celebration of that connection.

So… CONNECT! Share this post with your connections and ask them share with theirs! Go forth and spread the good word for Print and International Print Day… October 8, 2014 will be here before you know it!

  1. To celebrate International Print Day, I think we need to get Epic Rap Battles of History to do Johannes Gutenberg vs. Al Gore (the inventor of the Internet). That would be a fun video.
