Vladimir Gendelman, CEO of Company Folders, is also a fellow member of my LinkedIn Group Print Production Professionals. He reached out to let me know about his new Folder Design Gallery, and after a few emails back and forth we ended up having a nice phone conversation. There were several things that sparked my interest, and after we spoke I knew this is something that I wanted to share with everyone.
The Folder Design Gallery is “a collection of printed presentation folder designs aimed to provide graphic designers and folder purchasers with fresh ideas and inspiration, as well as encourage collaboration between them.” But it doesn’t end there… “Graphic designers are invited to submit their best folder designs for display in the gallery, driving extra attention and traffic to their online portfolios from potential clients and employers.”
If the concept has sunk in, it’s pretty genius. Vladamir is creating a user community of designers, buyers/marketers, on and through his site. But since the specs for each folder are generously provided, working with him is an option, not a given or a mandate. By providing useful tools and information for anyone who wishes to access it, Vladimir is marketing his services through the Design Gallery without SELLING, and the user community will reward that by sharing the information and helping him.
The Design Gallery is relatively new so I will be interested to know if this project delivers some customers or other measurable ROI for Company Folders. In the meantime, I will be spreading the word about this cool resource, and hope other printers are now inspired to examine what sort of tools or community building would also be useful to customers, and potential ones.
