Printed Electronic Labels Light Up Beverage Bottles

This was shared in my LinkedIn group and my comment was “COOOoooOOOooooolllll!”…. Not sure I have much to add to that! If you ever wondered how a printed circuit is created, I happen to have made a 4-part video from SGIA EXPO with Gerber Scientific Products who took me through the process on their new prototype machine which you can watch at your convenience. 

Innovia Films, a leading global manufacturer of speciality films, and PragmatIC Printing, the pioneer in imprinted logic circuits, have announced the successful integration of printed electronic functionality onto Innovia Films’ Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) label substrates.

The first prototypes are interactive bottle labels that activate a sequence of flashing lights when the bottle is held. This is only one example, from numerous possibilities, of how active packaging can be used to attract, inform or interact with the consumer.
