Adobe Muse: Web Design With No Code Necessary

Oh HAPPY DAY for print designers!  Anyone who has ever tried to create a website from a print designers layout knows that there are many limitations which usually result in frustrations – mainly for the digital designers.  Things such as kerning or leading are practically a foreign language – until now! This week Adobe unveiled a new product that will make graphic designers ecstatic and programmers cringe. Adobe Muse (code name) is a lightweight, image based software that allows designers to create a website without knowing any code. The product works like other design programs such as Illustrator and InDesign, but translates everything into browser compatible HTML that can be exported and uploaded with ease.

Along with standard features like type styles, master pages, positioning, color and typography—the software has a library of widgets that incorporate powerful javascript elements such as lightboxes, accordion menus, and automated navigation by simply dragging and dropping into place.

Unlike other Adobe programs, Muse is free to download, but once it leaves beta mode early next year, it will cost $15 a month (with a year subscription) or $20 for a month-to-month plan. The idea behind this pricing plan is that the software will be continually updated rather than releasing full upgrades every 12–24 months.

After completing the Muse tutorial and launching a functioning website in about 3 hours, this designer is definitely ecstatic.
